Ignorance Is Not Bliss

I was just browsing through some forums and webpages for information on Xenon Projector retrofitting. In case you guys don’t know what this is, go google it. The gist of it is that, you retrofit your original reflector based headlamps into the projector ones like the ones you see on a BMW, Merc, etc.
Now, having wanted to do this for a long time, I tried searching local forums for more information to source for cheap parts as well as trying to find cheap labour. I have also tried searching around the internet and most retrofits are done overseas, which to me is just not viable.
The one thing I have always assumed is that Malaysians are not properly educated in terms of proper vehicle lighting. My assumption has been proven true when I searched local sites. The one thing I noticed is that overseas DIY modders are more well informed and they know the stuff they are talking about.
Malaysians on the other hand are just plain ignorant. No doubt there are a bunch out there who knows their thing and appreciates proper lighting. Unfortunately, 90% of the time, I see people asking questions with a lot of misconceptions in them. The very obvious misconception would be that Xenon HID capsules are the blue bulbs producing white light. See, I am so tired of explaining all these, that I won’t even bother.
They do not even know what a good beam pattern looks like. They condemn the use of Xenons on the road just because they bothered looking directly at the headlamp to blind themselves. When a car is tilted uphill and the car happened to be equipped with Xenons and are blinding them, they instantly label Xenons as blinding. They do not even take into consideration the fact that any lighting will blind them when the car is tilted upwards.
I don’t even know why I am writing this. I guess it’s because of the fact that people here are just plain ignorant. Instead of better understanding technology and then commenting based on logical and objective grounds, they condemn the use of Xenons. I am not blaming these bunch of people as I do admit that they are a lot of cheapo kits out there which shouldn’t even be installed in the first place. Not only is it blinding the hell out of other road users, but it is also not effective as a uniform and homogeneous lighting instrument as the beam pattern is just completely screwed.
We need more people who can understand the fact that the blindness caused by Xenons are not because of the technology itself, but rather due to irresponsible manufacturers, installers and users. In fact, improperly aimed halogen headlights or screwed up cheapo halogen bulbs, that many people so favour over Xenons, are even more blinding that properly installed Xenons.
How I wish people would read up more and be more well informed. All I ask for is that people be more informative and not ignorant. It really upsets me that some people talk like as if they know everything when they know not even a fraction of what they are talking about. To tell me that “Xenon lamps should be banned simply because they are bright and I don’t care if it’s properly installed” is to simply tell me that butcher knives are to be banned simply because they are big and they are a hazard to other people, regardless of how you use them.
It doesn’t even make a single sense to me. Think about it.
