Rasa Sayang Kampua
Nov 9th, 2008 by Alvin Chong
Continuing with the trip up to Sibu with Clare, we went to Rasa Sayang the next day for kampua. According to the legendary Suituapui, Rasa Sayang serves up one of the best kampua he has ever tasted in Sibu. Naturally, Clare, being a curious cat wanted to taste the Kampua there. So, we went there with her family.
We arrived about 9ish morning, hence, there weren’t many customers. According to Suituapui, you’d be waiting like hungry cats if you went later. The shop has this very dull black and white theme, which on the other hand makes it look neat and clean.

Anyway, for drinks, Clare and I had Teh Si Peng Special. In all honesty, it isn’t all that special anymore. Most coffee shops in Kuching is already making it that way. Heck, even Sibu is catching up already.
Minutes later, the mee was served. It was pretty fast for its standard.

I had Kampua with black sauce. I normally have kampua that way. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t exactly know as well. Perhaps, it’s due to the fact that I have had kampua that way since young. I always felt kampua was a little tasteless without the black sauce.
Kampua in Sibu has evolved more into a fusion of Kolo Mee these days, but it doesn’t exactly tastes like Kolo Mee.

Clare on the other hand likes kampua as it is. I tried a mouth of her kampua and the first thing I said to her was, “Kolo Mee…” and you should have seen the look on her face. It was something like <_<
All in all, the serving was just right and for RM2.20 for a bowl of mee, it’s dirt cheap. No way can you find kampua for RM2.20 in Kuching nowadays. The least you can get it in Kuching is for a price of RM2.60. On top of that, the taste is pretty in line with top standards in Sibu, according to Sibu folks. Oh well, there you go, cheap, tasty kampua with a taste of Rasa Sayang! ![]()

Drool! Drool!…No prize for guessing where I’ll be heading first thing tomorrow morning! Hahahahahahaha!!!! I’m craving liao…
