Ruby Restaurant
Nov 7th, 2008 by Alvin Chong
I finally had a chance to dine at the ever so famous Ruby Restaurant commonly described by Sibu folks to me as a place that serves delicious yet cheap food. Anyway, I had a chance to drive up to Sibu with Clare on the 1st November 2008 in conjunction with All Souls Day.
That night itself, we headed to Ruby’s for a good dinner. First came the Pandan Chicken.

I tell you, this dish is definitely delicious. The pandan aroma is so strong, it sips into the chicken. You wrap the chicken in Pandan leaves and you deep fry them to perfection.

We did not have any rice for that night. Instead we opted for fried longevity noodles. According to Clare and mom, this one was a failure that night, since the noodle was sticking to each other like a ball. Overall, this is still a must try. When I said failure, I didn’t mean it in a bad way. The taste is still good but the noodle could have been prepared in a better way.

We also had the very common yet delicious Cangkuk Manis dish. Nothing special here but this is good to go with rice.

We also had the Nestum fish which is essentially cut fish fillet coated in Nestum. I believe there is also a substance of butter in this dish. Another way of eating this is to have it with the butter scotch cream. Splendid taste, although I do prefer the prawn version at times.

Last, but not least, we also had the ever so famous Butter Scotch Prawn, which Clare would tell me about every single day. Believe me, this is good. Clare thinks it’s better than the Sarawak Club buttered prawn, but I think they are two dishes cooked in different ways. They both have their own unique taste, but if you ever go to Ruby’s, never ever forget to ask for this signature dish of theirs.
You gulp all this down with Arthur Wee’s coffee (I’ll officially label this as Alvin Chong’s coffee now :P) and you go home with a happy stomach. Beware, you might not be able to sleep after having this coffee, if caffeine actually keeps you awake.

All in all, the damage was about RM50 for four person! Dirt cheap I’d say! So, if you are looking for a place where you can get cheap family food, Ruby is one of those places you’d wanna consider visiting. You can never go wrong with Ruby’s.

What do u mean “Alvin Chong’s coffee”? Go there and order and see what you’ll get? Alvin Chong who? Bwakakakakaka!!!! And you did not mention the dinner was free, courtesy of the BIG names: Kampua Talk and Suituapui!! Hehehehehehehe!!!!!
Btw, ur photo of the chicken peeping out of the pandan leaves looks kinda obscene, don’t ya think? ROTFLMAO!!!
suituapui: Kekekekeke… I’ll tell them, Alvin Chong’s coffee is exactly like Arthur Wee’s coffee. Wahahahahahaha… Anyway, I didn’t feel it was appropriate to mention the free meal in this review, but yea, thanks to the BIG *vomits* NAMES *vomits*, I had a free meal. ROFLMAO!!! My dear friend, what were you thinking when looking at the Chicken?!?! Think straight!!! hahahahahahaha…
[…] Let’s see what Alvin has to say about the food at Ruby’s as this was his first time ther… (finally!). […]
