Walking Down Memory Lane Australia (Part 1)
Walking Down Memory Lane Australia (Part 2)
I walked to my room and this friend which I met at the KLIA airport was coincidentally assigned the same room I was. The both of us together with a Bangladeshi was assigned a room with 3 bedrooms. In all honesty, I was still kinda home sick and so I talked to the friend who was staying with me. His name is Joe, by the way. We talked till almost 4am and the blardy heater in my room was not functioning properly and it was chilling to my bones.

Yes, that’s Joe but that wasn’t the room. Next morning, we had to wake up by 9am because we didn’t wanna miss our prepaid breakfast. I haven’t been eating for the past day and whatever was better than nothing. We headed for the lounge after getting ready and I instantly missed Malaysian food. If I remember correctly, I had some eggs and toast. How sad can that get?! Over here, I eat this…
NAH!
Then, we had to rush over to our residential college to see if we could collect our keys before 12pm because anything after that, we had to pay for an additional day at the lodge and hell, no way was I gonna pay for another day! Fast forward… Thank goodness, the keys were ready and thank goodness they were opened on Sundays!
We grabbed the keys, walked several hundred meters back to the place we stayed previously to pack up. We moved as quickly as possible. When all was said and done, we laid back, relax and watch porn went out for a tour around the surrounding area.
We came across the uni plaza, which is actually a row of shop lots with an Indian (or was it something else) food shop, a grocery shop, a realty office and also a fish and chip shop. Oh, not to also forget, there was a barbershop, a pharmacy and also a alcoholic drink store.
A word of advice is that, if you ever wanna buy groceries, avoid these places if at all possible since they always sell things a tad more expensive. You are better off shopping at places like K-Mart. We didn’t know any better. What do you expect? We were new!
Anyway, the first thought was, do they sell IDD cards? I’d die for one at this moment! They did and I bought one with a toll free line from Toowoomba. Now, how cool can that get? For 20 cents, I get to call as long as I want on a public phone so long as no one yelled at me from the back.
Now, the next problem was finding for a phone. Everyone was dying to call back. Anyhow, I finally managed to make a short call back and boy was I glad to finally hear familiar voices again!
Dad: Hello… How is everything?
Me: Everything is fine…
Dad: I see. We are having Kolo Mee here…
Me: @#$%^&*&^%$#@! I just had some lousy eggs and toasts, damn it!
Then the chat continued a while longer and I hung up with this nostalgic feeling yet again. If there is something I hate about myself, it is this nostalgic feeling I always get when I leave something I am so fond of.
Anyway for the next 6 days I settled into the environment while looking for a house to stay in. During the 6 days, our group that travelled up to Toowoomba continued sticking together. We even went to some of the colleges and gathered on a daily basis for movies. Some of the Australians living at the colleges actually thought we were a bunch of crazy kids lazing around the rest area with a laptop watching cantonese movie. How cool can that get?
Fast forward, I met up with a Kuching friend of mine to find a place to stay together. Who would have guessed, this would have been a big move. Anyway, we had agreed to meet up because he got to Australia first. So he brought me to visit the house which he had so hardworkingly chose based on my criteria of having a clean and usable toilet.
I saw the place and I liked it and so agreed to staying there.
To be continued…
