Remote Control or The Real Deal?
Aug 24th, 2008 by Alvin Chong
Life has been pretty boring lately. Hence, I decided to go with my friend to check out an interesting hobby. We went all the way up to somewhere deserted near Demak Laut. See, I have always been an aviation enthusiast. Unfortunately for me, my dream to become a pilot can never come true. Therefore, the nearest you can get to the real thing is to fly remotely via a remote control.

You first have to assemble the plane. As you can see, the size of the plane is not exactly small. Remember, a plane does not have reverse gears. Hence you push the plane back using… your hands of course by dragging it on its rudders.

Prior to take off, you’d want to clear the “runway” of humans and the Agusta helicopter. You don’t want fatal accidents on the”runway”!

You’d also wanna check the undercarriage before take off. How do you do that? Do it like how the man does it above…

Wokay! Everything seems about right. It’s time to start the engine. How??? Turn on all electrical power and turn the rotor with your hands like how you’d do it in real life!

It’s time to check the wind generated by the motor. All strong and good! Caution! NEVER EVER LET YOUR FINGERS GET STUCK BETWEEN THOSE RUNNING ROTORS. I ASSURE YOU, YOU’LL SEE YOUR FINGERS FLY OFF RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES! You have been warned!

Up to the sky we go!!! That is how small it looks when it’s flying. That is also how small you’d look if you were flying by.
Do a couple of stunts and it is time to land. Switch off the engines and glide. Be very careful of crosswinds. Steady, steady… 90 degree turn… down… down… flare… flare… touch down!
Oooppsss… slightly too left on the runway… oh crap… mayday, mayday… we are hitting the side kerbs! The landing gears won’t be able to take it! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! ARRGGGHHHH!!!

Everybody was alright. The plane survived the side impact. The landing gears, however, got detached from the undercarriage. It glided a good 10-20 meters on its belly. A few scratches and the pilot was lucky it did not glide into the drain.
This is a very expensive and yet interesting hobby. Any sponsorships for “Captain Alvin”? ![]()
