Movie Addict?
Jan 8th, 2008 by Alvin Chong
I used to be someone who goes to the cinema for movies every now and then. That was probably once a week or so. That also depended on whether I was really interested in the movie or not. This has changed since the last 2 years. I have been going to the cinema more often. At times, this could stretch to 3-4 times a week.
I used to find most movies boring last time. Only a few were worth watching in the cinema. I’d wait for the rest to get a slot on HBO. Time has changed however and it seems to me like as if the movies nowadays are getting more and more interesting. I don’t know if it is just me but I kinda have a feeling, they are getting better as the years go by.
So many movies are tempting me that I have to resist the temptation to watch them. I have to filter the least interesting ones out. As it is now, I am spending almost RM300 a month just watching movies. Now, that is A LOT! If you ask, I would have caught all the latest movies save the few newer ones.
Somebody is already complaining that I am always watching movies when she isn’t around and when she is, I have watched all of them. I can’t help it really, she comes and goes at the wrong time.
I was just browsing through the list of currently showing movies in cinemas and albeit having watched most movies I still have quite a number of movies I would love to watch. Screw ratings from some reviewers because I find some of the movies interesting even when they rate it very low. I guess people expect too much at times and often do a comparison to other movies if not its predecessors.
I too would do that at times but when viewed in isolation, the movie isn’t too bad even if it is not as good as its predecessors. Let me see what are some of the movies I would love to catch:
- Rendition
- In The Name of The King
- Gabriel
- The Gameplan
This is just to name a few. These movies alone would cost me RM40-50. I am beginning to think I am turning into a movie addict, but I just can’t help it, can I? These movies look so appealing to me. Don’t even start with National Treasure 2 because I have watched that one.
Having watched movie very often in KL, I don’t bother going to cinemas in Kuching. Why you might ask? Simply because the cinemas in Kuching is not up to standard. The seat alone is enough to put me off. Insufficient height sometimes causes you to sit upright when the person in front of you sit upright, or is taller than you. It is so irritating that you sometimes just feel like shouting at the guy if not smack his head off his body.
Hence, I’d rather wait until I get to KL to watch the movies. I better hope my parents are not reading this now, otherwise, the will be nagging at me for wasting so much money on movies.
