Tamagotchi
Sep 17th, 2007 by Alvin Chong
Ya, ya, I am a kid. I got myself a Tamagotchi. Well, I actually got it out of my curiosity. As a kid, I never got to play with the original Tamagotchi so I was just curious as to what is new in the current generation of Tamagotchis.
Anyway, I got myself the 4th version of the Tamagotchi. Apparently, it now supports infrared connection to other Tamagotchis. You can make friends, play and also marry another Tamagotchi and create the second generation of your Tamagotchi. Now, I never knew Tamagotchis have gotten this modern!
It also allows for simple game playings, for you to train your Tamagotchi and depending on how well you train it, it will grow to be a variety of species. Mine grew into this ugly looking 2 rabbit teeth species which Bandai classifies as universal/others. Meaning, any child Tamagotchi can grow into this. -_-”
Apparently, we are also able to utilize the website now to play and earn points for our Tamagotchis. One interesting thing to note is that, if your Tamagotchi grows older and if it doesn’t yet have a life partner, a matchmaker will come along and recommend one for your Tamagotchi.
One particular feature I hate about this new Tamagotchi is the fact that you will occasionally get random visits from some idiotic thief who will come along and steal a sum of your points. To add salt to injury, there is not a damn thing you can do about it! Interestingly, these virtual pets do get naughty and need some lectures every now and then. Also beware of people posting SHIT into your mailbox. This will reduce your Tamagotchi’s happiness to 25%.
In conclusion, I’d say that the Tamagotchi is still pretty much the same thing physically, with 3 buttons, except for some slight differences. Feature wise, I’d say the programming has gone a tremendous way ahead and I don’t even remember any of the characters I used to know when I was young. It makes for a good virtual friend when you are bored, and have no one else to entertain you. It pretty much helps in passing time. I am pretty surprised these things still go for about RM79.90!

Hi, I enjoyed reading your comment.
The truth is i’m in the same shoes as you. As a child , it was expensive toy and my parents did see the purpose of getting it for me.
I’m just wondering whether this tamagotchi is an artificial intelligence program.

reina: Sorry for the very very late reply. I know this is too late but still, if you’re reading, read my reply below to know where you can buy the tamagotchi.
crystal: Hi, as of now, the latest version that I know of is version 5. There are lots of places you can get it from. You can get it from any Toys R Us departmental store. You can also get it at Parkson and Jaya Jusco. I have seen the Tamagotchi sold in both Mid Valley and One Utama Jaya Jusco. Unfortunately, I can’t get them for you because I am no longer residing in KL. You will have to get it yourself. Go out and shop, you will most likely find one.
