My Runts And Grunts
Dec 29th, 2005 by Alvin Chong
On The Side Note:1) I haven’t been blogging for a long time to come. Damn, it just isn’t like me. Anyway, my apologies to errr… who? Damn, there ain’t no one reading this blog! Oh well…
2) Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2006 everybody. May the year to come bring you all great prosperity and abundant blessings.
I have finished my studies and am sitting at home like a retard. What next? I have been searching high and low around Kuching for a blardy IT job, for the past 3 months but to no avail! Alas, never give up I say. Wish me luck and I should be able to secure a job in a few days time. I better have my fingers crossed. Wish me luck, guys.
Now, what next? Hmm, a car sounds like a great idea. After all, my Protong Waja was giving me quite a headache and was costing a bomb to maintain. Scrutinizing the market, I decided on a hatchback for some personal reasons. In conclusion, I shortlisted my candidates of the Perodua MyVi, the all new Kia Rio and the Suzuki Swift.
Now, the MyVi is such a steal, priced at a handsome RM54,000 OTR for the premium automatic version. Needless to say, almost everyone can afford it and the queue for the car is BBBLLLLAAAAARRRDDDDYYYY long! At the time of consideration, it was more than half a year’s wait. Needing a car almost instantly, the MyVi didn’t seem too feasible, added to the fact that the audio head unit and the sound system did not sound too convincing.
The Kia Rio looked pretty appealing but priced at RM78,000 OTR. The only problem is, it doesn’t come with an airbag. Now, that is a big turn off. I know it will never come into use given that I drive normally down town but in an emergency, it could be a matter of life and death.
A word of caution to salesmen out there, never come to your customers and try to convince them that the car is equally good without airbags. Cut the crap because most cars nowadays come with them and are priced similarly. There is no excuse for not having an airbag. If the car doesn’t have one, just state it as a downside and focus on other advantages. Never make it a selling point. I just don’t buy it and it’s such a turn off, knowing you are trying to convince me like I am some kind of an idiot. So, take note.
I finally settled for the Suzuki Swift. Yea, it’s priced at a hefty RM86,000 OTR, thanks to our approve permit(AP) and also thanks to the excise duty. In this Boleh Land, we get a similar car priced at a mere AUD18,000 for the above mentioned price. Malaysia memang boleh!!!
Oh well, all fuss aside, I finally settled for the Suzuki Swift. Despite a lot of negative comments from relatives, I decided against them as I reckon Suzuki would be here to stay in Malaysia for quite sometime. I could indeed be right as I am seeing more and more Suzuki vehicles on the road nowadays. Added to the fact that Suzuki Malaysia Automobiles is putting in great efforts to promote their car sales, I see the Suzuki brand to stay in Malaysia for years to come.
Besides, the Suzuki Swift came with such an irresistible package which is handsomely priced. Anyway, in my next post, I’ll be doing a review on the Suzuki Swift, so do stay tuned. Thanks for dropping by and listening to my grunts and runts. ![]()

I wan to sit on your brand new car when i come back to KCH~
Start saving money and mod ur car! Yoo hoo! pack in a turbo or two, lower suspension, some 18 inches, change the pipe and muffler… and.. and.. pay the police more coffee tips… baka..
I will I will, but not for the mean time. I am so broke. I personally think a 17″ would look better on the car. Twin turbos sound good but I don’t know how much the engine and chassis can withstand. Put in a bigger muffler but not the Ah Beng ones and that would be sweet. Not to forget, installing HID and getting the car tinted.
Yea, and pay the police more kopi money. kekekeke..–>
