My New Rig Is On The Way
Oct 24th, 2005 by Alvin Chong
I just had news that my new rig is on the way. Yea, despite it being a tid bit expensive and all, I am getting a Dell rig because it’s still cheaper than me going to the shops and customizing a PC unless I have great manufacturer deals.
Anyway, here are the specifications for my machine. Won’t say it’s really great but I’d say it’s above average in most aspects. Here’s how my baby will look like when it arrives:
- Intel Pentium D 830 3.0GHz Dual Core Processor
- Intel 945P Chipset
- 1GB NECC Dual Channel 667 MHz DDR2 RAM
- Dell Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
- 9 in 1 USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Card Reader
- 1.44MB FDD
- 160GB SATA 7200RPM HDD
- 16X DVD+/-RW Writer
- IEEE 1394 Controller
- 256MB PCIe x16 nVidia GeForce 6800
- 19″ Flat Panel LCD
- Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
- Dell 5.1 Speakers
That’s basically the hardware part. The Windows XP Professional license and also the shipping charges contributed to the price. Phew, can’t wait for my baby to arrive. I’ll post some pictures of my new rig when I have her set up. Doesn’t she look kinda sexy? MUAHAHAHAHA… =D

you idiot, are you going to develop any world wide project?
Anyway, how much does it cost you?
Yo mate, how’s it going? LOL…
Yea, I am gonna develop some kind of a “world wide project”!!! LOL.. right… as if!!! haha…
Oh well, why get a half done system and end up having to buy upgrade parts and fitting it in 1 month’s time? Might as well get it all done with when you first purchase it, right? hehe..
Anyway, it costs me about RM 5223. Like I said, it’s a tid bit expensive but still better than me getting a clone PC from the shop. hehe.. You know I don’t live in KL so… there goes… =)
1.44MB 3.5″ Disk drive?
I thought that was obsolete?! Dell still sell those?
Duh!?
Yea, 1.44MB FDD.
Yea, it is obsolete and no, it wasn’t made available in the original spec. I added it as an optional component because despite it being obsolete, there is still use for a 1.44MB FDD. At least I still use it.
BTW, you are?
Hello, I guess you know a lot about PC.
Well, i basically only use for the basic stuffs.
Was wondering whether you have heard or tried out the asus eee pc.
I’m planning to get it because it is so small and cheap.
What’s your comment on this. I checked out a pc shop at pavillion and it is going for rm1500, but they only have the asus eee pc 4G.
On ebay i found a guy from UK, actually modify the system and install it with winxp and selling it.
I’m sure can get most parts from low yat and can modify it ourself, just that i’m not a hardware person expert.
Any comments
